"The three day Northern California Home & Landscape Expo at Cal Expo kicks off at noon Friday with more than 1,200 exhibits showcasing the latest home and garden trends, products and services.     A strong presence at this year's Expo is the practice of "redesign." The Sacramento-area Interior
Redesign Industry Specialists will host a booth at the event to demonstrate how to use what you already have to transform a room, using principles of balance and

harmony.
Jodi King, IRIS President and owner of Artistic Interior Design, will lead workshops on room arranging at 3 p.m. Friday, 4p.m. Saturday and 4p.m. Sunday. "Usually people seek out a redesigner because they are ready for a change, " King said. "Or they know there is something not quite right with the way their room is

arranged."
Two important factors are required for a worthwhile room configuration: energy balance and balance with nature, King said.
She added that true redesign is not always possible, and sometimes homeowners need to bring in additional elements to a room.
"A lot of times people need a focal point, or more color, and I will fill in the gaps so it's stunning and complete," King said.
     The growing popularity

of redesign follows the trend of staging in real estate - improving a home's arrangement to make it more attractive for sale.
"This is staging for living," King said. "Redesign is much less expensive than a total redecorating and more personal- it's using the things you really love."
Attendees at the IRIS workshops can enter a drawing for a free redesign of their home.
The show runs Friday until 8 p.m., from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and from
10 a.m. to 6p.m. Sunday.
Admission is $7 for adults and free for children ages 12 and younger. A free pass to the Esquire IMAX Theater is included for attendants.
Friday only, admission for anyone older than 50 is just $2. 'Parking at Cal Expo is $7, and shuttles from the parking lot will run throughout the expo.
